[Soci SLIP] vga=3D773 non funziona piu

Devo riesumare un vecchio pc, chipset VIA, con il kernel linux 2.6.18 per farlo partire in modo che le cose funzionassero era necessario il parametro del kernel vga=773 (installai Debian con XFCE).

Oggi né gNewSense né Ubuntu eseguono correttamente il boot live su quell'hardware: arrivano correttamente fino a GNOME, ma alla sua partenza lo schermo rimane irrimediabilmente nero. Ho provato con 773, 789, 31337, bricks, eccetera: niente.

Amici del retrocomputing, avete idea di come possa risolvere?
Avete dei banchi di RAM, almeno 512, di tipo DDR400?
